details of the
kfd are available in karnataka:state of the
environment report 1983-84,cj saldanha. centre for
taxonomic studies,bangalore.1984.
from the info given there we derive that there is a
correlation between permanent pastures lost and the
spread of kfd, correlation 95% , p less than 0.001
applying the students t test to data given in
ramaprasad and kirti malhotra.op cit.1984. land use
and water resources table 5 and data for the increase
or advent of the number of foci of kfd in
shimogha, uttara kannada and finally in dakshina
kannada between 1957 and 1983. it is interesting to

note that after the linganamakki dam became

operational in 1953 the kfd was first detected in

shimogha  in 1957.

it is clear that the foci spread with the clearing of
the forests and the shrinkage of the permanent
pastures and other grazing lands with the advent of
dam building and usurpation of pastures by submergence
and development.
from the abundant evidence available and from
fundamental physiological properties of forests and
ecological considerations, including impact on the
health of human beings like kfd and japanese
encephalities, as is evident also from recent
newsreports in the hindu, indian express and others
like deccan herald, we must prevent the coming up of
hydro schemes having the above impacts. we are in for
a lot of work.
this i wrote in 1999. In 2019 we see the terribly intensified destructive effects of  modern civilization, a society of specialists in Karnataka hurtling all life towards Pralaya.

This article is a big zero because it ignores my work on dams as the principal cause of many catastrophes befalling the wild man and his industrial revolution. In living in this world by his own will and skill, the stupidest peasant or tribesman is more competent than the most intelligent worker or technician or intellectual in a society of specialists- Wendell Berry In the Unsettling of America- Culture and Agriculture.
